Thanks for stopping by my new site. My name is Sean Cook, and I have been a student affairs professional for just over 15 years. I earned my Masters in Educational Guidance and Counseling from Clemson University, with a concentration in Student Affairs in Higher Administration in 1994. Since then, I’ve held a variety of student life positions, starting with a Residence Life position at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina, then positions working in Residence Life and academically-linked student organizations at Penn State.
I have worked with college students, their parents, and student affairs/higher ed professionals for the entirety of my career. I have experience helping people successfully adjust to a variety of situations. Some examples are included below:
Student Issues:
- Adjustment to living with a roommate
- Finding their niche on campus
- Dealing with homesickness
- Exploring majors and involvement opportunities (clubs, co-ops, internships, leadership positions)
- Depression and Mental Health Issues
- Goal-setting
- Making better behavioral choices (social, academic, interpersonal).
- Preparing for job searches
- Making successful transitions to post-college life
Parents:
- Help identifying resources on campus and in the community for their student
- Adjusting to their student’s independence
- Understanding policies, procedures and “the way things work” on campus
- Empowering students to make their own decisions
- Dealing with the impacts of poor student choices (behavioral, career, academic)
These are all areas I hope to explore with this blog, and with my new life and career coaching practice. I’m very interested in hearing from readers about their interests and concerns, as I plan regular articles.
At this point, I am working on developing coaching models that will meet the needs of students, parents and higher ed professionals. I’ll be sharing advice and information through this blog and my Twitter! account, hghredlifecoach.
As I work on developing a unique model for meeting the needs of these target groups, I am happy to discuss brief “advice and/or consultation” sessions, based on your needs. For more information, see my website (coming soon) higheredlifecoach.com, or e-mail me at sean@higheredlifecoach.com
Thanks again for stopping by! I hope that you will visit again.
Sean
